He was the retiring president of the Woodburn Shire Council, having filled the office since the inception of local government. He had also been a member of the municipal council and a prominent public man. Deceased s people were pioneers of Singleton, and arrived there 40 years ago

On the northern bank of Dora Creek, opposite Percy Simpsons Kourumbung grant, lay another large portion of 1500 acres which was promised in 1829 to Patrick F. Campbell of Maitland. It was this property which was purchased over half a century later by the Seventh day Adventists for the establishment of the Avondale College. At no time did Campbell reside on his grant, and it appears to have lain undeveloped during the 1830s
