John Butler Hewson, gaoler testified....On Sunday after dinner I went to liberate the prisoner from the wards for the purpose of attending Divine Service when I found the prisoner in one of the wards. I have repeatedly cautioned him not to be there and I have every reason to suppose he was there for the purpose of gambling. He was very insolent on my reproving him for being there... Guilty. Sentenced to fifty lashes
