Details: William Henderson alias Harper, remanded on bail from Muswellbrook was charged with bigamy. That at East Maitland on 20th March 1857, did marry Mary Bruant and that while he as so married did on the 30th August 1884 at East Maitland, marry Mary Henderson alias Harper, being then alive….Mary Henderson alias Harper, on oath states – I have heard my information read, and it is true; I know the prisoner now before the court; he is m husband; in the commencement of the year 1857 I was living in West Maitland; I was a widow and my name was Mary Compton; my maiden name was Mary Bruant; my first husband Thomas Compton died during the month of February 1856 in the Maitland Hospital; I first became acquainted with the prisoner the latter end of 1856; I knew him as William Henderson; he said he was a bootmaker and resided at the Rockey River diggings; I knew the prisoner about three months before I married him; I was married to prisoner at East Maitland on 20th March 1857 by Rev. William McIntyre. Witnesses Henry Sayers and Maria Mitchell, milliner of East Maitland
