Details: The death occurred, in tragic circumstances, on 3rd inst., at Potts Point, Sydney, of Mr. Thomas Augustine Purcell, late resident of the Murrurundi district, at the age of 64 years. Answering a call of help to rescue an aged woman from a room which she had entered after it had been fumigated with cyanide gas, the deceased was overcome by the fumes, and his courageous willingness to save the life of an other meant the sacrifice of his own life. Born at Scotts Creek, Blandford, in 1881, the late Mr. Purcell was one of nine children of Pat rick and Bridget Purcell, early pioneers of the Murrurundi district. In his early life, he assisted his parents on their hold ing at Scotts Creek, and between times working on neighbouring stations and holdings. A hard working and practical man, the late Mr. Purcell soon acquired a selection of his own, and mar ried Miss Frances Mullins, of Petwyn Vale, Wingen. With his family reared, the deceased moved his home to Murrurundi, while still retaining his holding at Scotts Creek. Here he lived with his family until six years ago, when he moved to Sydney, residing there until his untimely death. Conscientious and industrious, the late Thomas Purcell was of an unassuming nature, who worked and lived for his family, of - which he was extremely and justly proud. Scrupulous to the great est degree in all dealings right throughout his life, the deceased was held in the highest respect and esteem by all with whom he came in contact. It was not surprising, therefore, that his family were the recipients of hundreds of messages of sympathy when the news of his passing became known
