Details: Frederick Ward and James Garbutt were indicted for having feloniously stolen, taken and driven away twenty horses, twenty mares and twenty geldings, the property of William Zuill and five horses, five mares and five geldings the property of Charles Reynolds at Maitland on 21st April. Second count accused them of receiving.Witnesses Chief Constable Garvin, Chief Constable Hart, John Zuill, William Zuill, Charles Reynolds, Henry Locock, Michael Blake, Walter McLeod, Constable Keating, Thomas Sleath, Edward Walsmley, William Walmsley, George Seymour. Garbutt was found guilty on the first count and Frederick Ward was found guilty on the second count and both were sentenced to ten years hard labour on the roads.

Details: Mr. Charles Reynolds of Tocal, was killed September 13 by a fall from his horse. He was in many senses a most valuable public man, and as a breeder of first class horses and horned stock had advanced the interests of the colony most materially. Some of the best racehorses on the turf were born at Tocal, and its reputation was world wide

Details: Born in Devonshire in 1806. Arrived in Sydney in 1840 and purchased a station on Liverpool Plains. After losing his stock to drought he settled at Louth Park near Maitland and became a stock breeder. In 1843 he moved to Tocal. He died in consequence of an accident in September 1871 leaving a widow, 4 sons and a daughter
