I went up to her and asked her the reason, the prisoner replied, I will not be jawd (?) from morning till night, sat down and refused to go on with her work. I had overlooked this conduct previously. In defence Mary Mack stated she was removed from one kind of work to another and which she was not equal to. Guilty. Sentenced to be placed in the cells for ten days and return to her master

I called her in to speak to her of the impropriety of her conduct. I asked her if she thought such conduct was right and what she thought the magistrates would say to such conduct. She said she did not care what the Magistrates would say and went out. I rang the bell but she would not come. I desired the man to tell her to come. I am informed she said she would not. One of my daughters went to ask her in. She told my daughter that she would see us all b.....first before she would do any work. I went out. I took her by the arm and told her to go in to her work when she refused. This is the second offence of the kind. Sentenced to 21 days in the cells
