Details:
ARTHUR M. FREWIN, Builder and Contractor, was born in Gloucestershire (Eng.), in 1841, and at the age of twelve years accompanied his grandparents to Sydney, where he remained two years, afterwards settling in Newcastle, of which district he has since been a resident. He was employed for several years in mining, and then went into the building trade, which he still follows, devoting his attention principally to house and cottage building, having erected many of these around the district. In 1877 Mr. Frewin was elected a member of the Municipal Council, of Wickham, and has held his seat ever since. In 1882 he was elected mayor-a position he filled with dignity and credit. He laid the foundation stone of the school-of- arts on 22nd June, 1882, and was presented by the city with a silver trowel on the occasion. He is president of the Mining Vigilance Committee, formed to protect the interests of the landowners, is a member of the I.O.O.F., and is president of the Freethought Association of Newcastle. He is married, and is the father of five children
