Details: SAMUEL COHEN is a native of London, and was born in 1830. At the age of twenty-three years he landed in Sydney, and after remaining in the metropolis for two and a half years proceeded to Newcastle, and established a store. Two years later he visited the Clarence, stayed for three years in Grafton, and finally settled down in Ulmarra. Previous to relinquishing commercial pursuits, he conducted a large and important storekeeping business, exporting maize and general produce to Sydney, Melbourne, and Queensland ports, and had an interest in farming operations in the growing of sugar, etc. The subject of our sketch was elected first mayor of Ulmarra, and was for many years chairman of the local School Board, and is a J.P. of considerable standing. In 1853 he married in London, and has eleven children living. His eldest son-Algernon Aaron-is a graduate of Maresehal College, Aberdeen, a doctor of medicine of that University, and a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, London (Eng.).
