Obituary - The Rev. James S. White M.A., LL.D., Presbyterian minister at Singleton died at 2 oclock after a very brief illness. The deceased was ordained at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Singleton in 1847, since which time he has been in harness, his only holiday being of a few weeks duration. In 1859, before the union of the Presbyterian Churches, Dr. White was unanimously elected Moderator of the Synod of the Church of Scotland in NSW. The union of the churches took place in 1863 and in 1893 Dr. White was elected Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of NSW. He celebrated his jubilee as a minister on the 29th April 1898. He leaves two married daughters Mrs. D. Buchanan of Uralla, and Mrs. Henry of Hill End, and three single daughters and two unmarried sons who live at home. Dr. James White his eldest son, died in Singleton a few years previously. Interview with Rev. Bain re the life of Rev. White - Rev. White was the son of a soldier who fought at Waterloo. Rev. White received a grant of land at Singleton known as Gowrie where he resided up to the time of his death. His remains were buried in a private cemetery at Gowrie
