Old miners will remember Mr. Elijah Pratten, who originally worked for the A.A. Company, and later on transferred his home to Wallsend, where he for some years carried on business as a butcher. He died at his residence Dark Creek, and was buried at the Wallsend with Masonic rites. The inscription on the stone read:- Sacred To the memory of ELIJAH PRATTEN who departed this life April 4, 1870. Aged 45, Also, JULIA ANN. wife of Thomas Pratten, who died July 20, 1888. Aged 34. And ELIJAH PRATTEN, their beloved son. who was accidentally killed September 19, Aged 14.
