Details: Looking over the list of police magistrates who have in the turn officiated at Newcastle, one finds the name of Major Innes, who passed away in the later fifties, and was buried in the Cathedral Churchyard. The grave is covered by a solid slab of polished red granite, which looks as good as the day it was placed there, but the wooden fence which one surrounded it is fast disappearing. A simply worded inscription tells that the stone was placed there to the memory of Archibald Clunes Innes Esq., of Lake Innes, Port Macquarie, Late Major 3rd Buffs, Aug. 27, 157. Died deeply lamented, especially by the poor and humble
