Details: The first pastor of the Brown St. Congregational Church at Newcastle was the Rev. John Gibson who arrived in Newcastle in 1851 from Jamaica. In the latter place Mr. Gibson had laboured for several years under the auspices of the London Missionary Society. Before leaving Jamaica for Australia Rev. Gibson christened Mr. Scott Holland who would later become Newcastle Town Clerk.
