Details:
The Rev. G. C. Bode, incumbent of St. Thomas s Church, St. Leonards has become added to the list of departed Australian divines. For five years Mr. Bode has worthily followed in the footsteps of the Rev. W. B. Clarke, the former incumbent of the old church of the North Shore. He soon won the respect and affection of people of all creeds, and was universally be- loved through the district. In addition to the duties of the church he established branch mission stations, and he officiated as chaplain to the artillery forces stationed at the batteries. Mr. Bode commenced his ministerial labours at Newcastle, officiating for several years at St. Johns. In 1869, he removed to Sydney, and became curate at St. James s, and in this important sphere he exerted a most beneficial influence ; in 1875, he was appointed by the Bishop to the parish in which . he ministered to the time of his death. His health has not been good for some time, but it is only a fortnight since he returned from a trip to Moss Vale apparently much better in health. A few days ago, however, he was attacked by pleurisy, to which malady he speedily succumbed. He leaves a widow and a young family to mourn his loss.
