Details: An account of the conflagration on board the ship Mathesis during the voyage to New South Wales. The Mathesis left Dundee on 2nd June 1841 with 86 emigrants on board. She had a favourable passage till 9th August when the third mate was in the store room getting out provisions when some straw caught fire by a spark from his candle........The cargo was very much destroyed and sold for very little when they reached Rio de Janeiro; the ship sustained great damage and the chronometers were destroyed
