I pursued Jones and called out stop thief. I followed him at a distance to the lumber yard where I saw him taken into custody. Two dumps was the money he took from me. The Chief Constable states - I heard a cry of stop thief and saw Jones running. I pursued him and overtook him inside the lumber yard gate, just as I overtook him I saw him throw something away; when Fewins came up he told me he had been robbed of two dumps. I looked in the direction in which i had seen Jones throw something from his hand and found two dumps which I have no doubt was what he had thrown away. Jones denied the charge. Sentenced to 50 lashes and 14 days in the gaol gang
