Ship: Araminta 1854
Date: 2 August 1854
Place: Port Jackson
Source: Maitland Mercury
Details: Arrival – 29 July - Araminta, ship, 845 tons, Captain Fearon, from Liverpool May 4th. Passengers - 326 government immigrants. Mr. Lowe, Surgeon Superintendent. The Araminta is a North American built ship, and has not the slightest appearance of a clipper, but nevertheless has made a first-rate passage of 79 days from the Lands End, and 84 from Liverpool. The Araminta brings 326 government immigrants (about one-third of whom have had their passages paid by their friends), consisting of 32 couples, 100 single men, 92 single women, and 67 children, nearly all of an agricultural class, and from various parts of the United Kingdom. During the passage there were 6 births and 3 deaths, some few cases of measles, scarlatina, and dysentery occurred on the voyage and the ship is consequently now in quarantine-there are no malignant cases of sickness at present, nor during the trip have any of a severe nature taken place.
