Return of Corporal Punishment inflicted by Sentence of the Bench in the presence of William Howe and John Coghill. 50 lashes for unlawfully employing the team of William Howe and intoxication. The part of the back exposed to the scourge assumed a deep purple colour before the end of the punishment and there was a breach of surface overthe greater part of the same space, which might be termed a 'raw' but no blood flowed. The manner of the prisoner indicated great pain
